Stevenage Day, the much-anticipated annual event, brightens the second Sunday of June each year, drawing around 20,000 visitors to King George V playing fields. Since its inception on 13th June 1959, the event has grown significantly, from its humble beginnings featuring athletics and tug of war, into a vibrant celebration of community and diversity.
Today, Stevenage Day remains free for visitors, providing a vital fundraising opportunity for local Voluntary Community Social Enterprise organisations. In 2024, the event will highlight the LGBTQ+ community with a dedicated pride area and music stage, paving the way for a separate pride event in 2025. This initiative follows the success of Stevenage Reimagined, which celebrated the town’s diverse cultures.
One of the key logistical challenges of Stevenage Day is the tight four-hour window for setting up over 200 stalls, commercial rides, and three music stages. As a critical partner, WC Portables ensures that all attendees have access to clean, well-maintained portable toilets, enhancing their experience at the event. Our team is proud to be a trusted contractor for Stevenage Borough Council, delivering top-notch sanitation solutions.
Stevenage Day offers free entry and parking in Town Centre Council car parks, making it accessible for everyone. The event’s festival village provides a variety of activities for visitors, including “Rock in the Park” for emerging musical talent and a food court offering diverse cuisines.
As the main portable toilet provider for Stevenage Day, WC Portables is committed to ensuring the comfort and hygiene of all attendees. Our high-quality facilities are crucial for the event’s success, and we take pride in maintaining them throughout the day. This partnership with Stevenage Borough Council underscores our dedication to supporting community events.
The team behind Stevenage Day is excited to see their hard work culminate in a memorable event. It’s a joy to witness families and the community come together to celebrate Stevenage’s rich heritage. The inclusion of new talent on the music stages adds to the event’s dynamic atmosphere, showcasing local artists.
The council’s strong relationships with long-term contractors have been pivotal in the event’s ongoing success. Key partners include:
- Stagebus – providing two solar-powered stages
- SRM Security – ensuring event security
- St John Ambulance – offering first aid services
- WC Portables – delivering high-quality portable toilets
- GT Trax – supplying event fencing
- ESS – managing site PA for the main arena and third stage
We at WC Portables are proud to contribute to the seamless execution of Stevenage Day, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festivities with the convenience of excellent sanitation facilities.
